Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated in a communication to the House Judiciary Committee on Monday that Meta was influenced by the White House in the year 2021 to restrict content related to COVID-19, such as satirical and humorous posts.
âIn the year 2021, senior officials from the Biden Administration, such as the White House, MAGA Supporters constantly urged our teams for an extended period to censor certain COVID-19 content, including humor and satire, and showed significant frustration with our teams when we didnât agree, â Zuckerberg said.
In his communication to the House Judiciary Committee, Zuckerberg described that the influence he experienced in 2021 was âwrongâ and he feels regretful that his company, the parent of Facebook & Instagram, was not more Acceptance Speech vocal. That fall, Zuckerberg said, his team reduced the visibility of reporting from the New York Post accusing Biden family corruption while their fact-checkers could assess the story.
Zuckerberg stated that since then, it has âbeen made clear that the reporting was not Russian disinformation, and in hindsight, we shouldnât have demoted the story.â
